When I began playing Ultima Online in 1999 I would have never thought that one day I would be working on the very game that would become such a formative part of my gaming life. Beginning as an Event Moderator in 2008, I joined the UO development team at Electronic Arts’ Mythic in 2012 as a contract designer and under the mentorship of the talented individuals on that team, grew both my technical and creative skills. Today I continue my role as a designer on UO with Broadsword, putting to use the technical and and creative skills I’ve honed over the years while providing creative leadership to our expanded content team. Being a designer on UO requires a strong foundation in not only the games two-decade long history, but also a strong foundation in coding the content you wish to implement. In the nine years since I’ve spent in the gaming industry, I’ve helped design, code, test, and ship over twenty-five title updates, including the Time of Legends expansion. Some notable contributions I’ve made include;
- The Awakening 15th Anniversary Arc
- Expanding the City Loyalty System
- Various Monster Encounters and AIs – Exodus, Blackthorn’s Dungeon, Shadowguard
- Anniversary, Veteran, and Holiday Rewards and Promotional Items
- A host of new game systems to provide a deeper and more immersive open world – Huntmaster’s Challenge, Trade Quests
- MTX and In-Game Store Items
- 100s of bug fixes
